Droid Dictate (beta)

Droid Dictate transfers speech that has been recognized by the Goolge Speech To Text service as text to your PC and insert it via copy/paste into a text editor or an office application.

Supported operating systems are Ubuntu and Windows.

1. Start the Android App

Run the Android app. If speech to text is not supported, the following screen will be displayed:


If that error occurs you can not use Droid Dictate on your device ... sorry!

If speech to text is supported the following screen should appear...

2. Client Installation

To run the client Java 6 or higher is needed.
Java can be downloaded from www.java.com.

Download the client and run it by double clicking on it.

After double-clicking on the downloaded jar file the Droid Dictate icon should appear in the system tray.
If system tray is not available a separate window will be opened.

2. Scanning for a Client

Before you can start a dictate the application on the Android device has to find the client you just started on your PC.


Press the Scan Button to find the client. If everything goes well you should see the following screen:

3. Start the Dictate

Now that you have the Android app and the client running on your PC you do a first test.

Open a text editor or a word processing application that supports copy/paste on your PC.

To start the dictate, simply press the Speak Button.
Now the speech to text dialog sould appear on your Android device.

After the spoken text has been recognized by the Google service, it should appear in the text editor or word processing application.

To stop the dictate, press the Cancel Button of the text to speech dialog.
